Recipe : Chana Dal Fry.

This dish is flavourful, comforting, and goes well with rice or Indian bread like chapatti or naan.


1 cup Chana Dal (split chickpeas), washed and soaked for 2-3 hours

3 cups water

1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped

2 medium-sized tomatoes, finely chopped

1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust according to spice preference)

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 teaspoon garam masala

1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice level)

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon cumin powder

2 tablespoons cooking oil or ghee

Salt to taste

Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish

Lemon wedges, for serving

Recipe Instructions:

-Drain the soaked Chana Dal and rinse it once again.

-In a pressure cooker or a large pot, add the Chana Dal and 3 cups of water. Cook the dal until it becomes tender. If using a pressure cooker, cook it for about 3-4 whistles. If using a pot, it may take around 25-30 minutes.

-Once the Chana Dal is cooked, heat oil or ghee in a separate pan over medium heat.
